Bruce Gene Blair

Bruce G. Blair, a towering figure in the world of boxing and a cherished husband, brother, and father, passed away on August 21, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born on December 29, 1948, Bruce dedicated his life to the sport of boxing, leaving an indelible mark both in the ring and in the corner. As an elite competitor, he fought in the 1978 pre-Olympic trials in Russia, proudly bringing home a medal. Transitioning from competitor to mentor, Bruce became a world-renowned professional boxing trainer. Over decades of dedication, he shaped the careers of countless athletes, training elite Olympic and professional boxers locally, nationally, and internationally. His lifelong commitment to excellence and his athletes culminated in his well-deserved induction into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2024.

Beyond his monumental contributions to his sport, Bruce was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Gail Blair; his daughter, Ashley Blair; his sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Michael Greene; his brother-in-law, Rick Jackson Jr.; and his nephew, Christopher Jackson. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, discipline, and profound care for those he loved and trained.

A Mass to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, September 14, at 11:00 AM at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, located on Tennessee Avenue in Atlantic City.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made toward the restoration of St. Nicholas of Tolentine.
