Charles Edward Murray, age 71 of Philadelphia, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Veterans' Hospital of Philadelphia. Charles was born in Philadelphia Pa. on February 14, 1941 to Daisy Cooper and Onearl Murray. His father Onearl Murray , preceded him in death. Charles was affectionately known by his grandchildren as "G-Dad", "Pop-Pop" and "Granddad." He was raised and educated in South Jersey, a graduate of Clayton High school and soon after attended Rutgers University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Humanities. One of Charles' proudest accomplishments was also serving his country in the United states Army, fighting in the Vietnam War. "G-Dad" was a quiet man who enjoyed spending time with his family and solving crossword puzzles. Charles retired after numerous years at the Vineland Developmental Center. Charles Edward Murray leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife of Forty Four years, Alice Murray; mother Mrs. Daisy McElveen; one devoted daughter Shondell (Arthur) Scott; one devoted son Michael (Michelle) Murray; two brothers Frank Murray and Vernon (Donna) Cooper; one sister, Elease (Dennis) Warren; Six grandchildren, Arthur (Tre'), Maya, Cameron, Michael Jr. Mason and Malia; Niece and nephews, Danielle and Michael Cooper, Robin Murray, and Tyler Warren; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Words cannot express how much he will be missed, but we will carry on knowing that God is always in control. Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland. Burial will follow in the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Hopewell, NJ. The viewing will be from 10:00am-12:00pm on Friday at the funeral home.
