Obituary

Edward Campion Rush, born the 12th of February 1937, died peacefully at Inspira Hospital on Monday, the 5th of May after a short but well-fought battle with cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Judith Dale (Kroelinger) Rush. Edward's daughter, Kimberly (Rush) Munro lives in Buxton, Derbyshire, United Kingdom with her husband Euan David Munro and their four children, Edward's Grandchildren, Ashton (age 16), Elise (age 15), Grace (age 8) and Charles Edward (age 6). Edward's son, Kevin Edward Rush, pre-deceased him. Edward was born in Cooper Hospital in Camden to Mrs. Edith Rush McHenry and Mr. Arthur Wesley Rush. He grew up in Vineland before serving in the United States Air Force for four years and then the United States Marines Reserves for a further four years. Moving to Millville with his family, Edward graduated on the Deans List from Rowan University (Glassboro State College) with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. He subsequently earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Administration and Supervision. He then went on to earn a Masters in Secondary Administration and Supervision and a Masters in Guidance and Counseling. He earned an additional qualification in Early Childhood Education from Rowan University (Glassboro State College). Beginning his career as an educator in the classroom at Mount Pleasant Elementary School in Millville, Edward taught 5th Grade. He was awarded Outstanding Young Educator by the Millville Jaycees in 1966, along with honors for Distinguished Services to Youth. He progressed into school administration after five years of classroom teaching to become the Vice Principal of the newly-built Rieck Avenue School in 1969. He dedicated himself to this post for 33 years, earning the honor of Administrator of the Year from Millville Education Authority in 1994. A keen contributor to his local community youth, Edward was honored by the Millville YMCA for Services to Youth for five years running a young man's social group there. Latterly, he served on the Cumberland/Gloucester and Salem Counties Child Placement Review Board. After his retirement from school administration in 1999, Edward continued his commitment to education, working with his wife, Judith, as a volunteer for the Graduate Equivalent Diploma (GED) Program in Millville for the last fifteen years. Edward played college baseball, serving his team as a left-handed pitcher. He continued his passion for sports, particularly golf and running, throughout his life, completing some 15 marathons and half marathons all over the USA. Sharing his love of sports, Edward coached many teams, one of his most proud and enjoyable being the Rieck Avenue School girls 8th grade basketball team, The Thunder-Jets. With his faith firmly at the heart of his life, Edward was a student at The Reformed Bible Institute of the Delaware Valley for ten years, where he was awarded a Certificate for Biblical Studies. As a member of the Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Vineland, Edward served as Trustee, member of the Pulpit Committee and Financial Secretary, as well as offering constant practical support for fellow members of the congregation. He worked in and around the Church buildings and grounds to maintain and preserve them. A visitation will be held on Friday, the 9th of May, from 4pm to 8pm, Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church, corner of Landis Avenue and State Streets, including a Masonic Service at 7pm. The funeral will be held on Saturday, the 10th of May at 11am with no viewing prior to the service celebrating Edward's life. Interment will follow in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.
