Egery Nelson, Jr., age 76 of Vineland, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at his residence after a brief illness.

He was born in Vineland to the late Egery and Dorothy (Noaker) Nelson and worked in the insurance industry. Egery, along with his wife Nancy, owned and operated Egery Nelson, Inc., the family insurance business which began in the late 1930's. He attended elementary and middle school in Vineland and high school at the Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ. Egery was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University and in preparation for joining the family business, he attended Oberlin College.

Egery was a member of the Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star and had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed travel and had the opportunity to see many places around the world.  He enjoyed the Miami area where he had a second residence for many years. Egery had fun attending dog shows and meeting and learning about the different breeds of dogs. During his lifetime, he enjoyed the companionship of five special Pugs, his breed of choice, and he also was active with animal rescue transports. For many years Egery attended the West Coast Ragtime Festival, where he served as a volunteer. Along with his many interests, Egery was a car enthusiast and enjoyed going to the Auto Show each year to check out the new models of cars.

He was predeceased by his parents Egery and Dorothy Nelson and his sister Dorothy June Grant.

Egery is survived by his wife, Nancy (Gilberg) Nelson; his nephews Duncan "Tim" Grant of Milmay, NJ and Douglas and his wife Suzanne Grant of Buena, NJ; nieces Deborah Parrish of Cherry Hill, NJ and Diana "Judi" Hulme and husband Randall of Laramie, Wy. He is also survived by his cousin Robert Simpson and wife Carol of Vineland and by several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A gathering of friends and family will take place at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland, on Wednesday August 30th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and again on Thursday August 31st  from 10:00 - 11:00 am.  A memorial service will follow on Thursday at 11:00 am.  Interment will be private.
