Obituary

Elba L. Negron, daughter of the late Maria Dolores Gonzales and Juan Antonio Colon was born on November 24, 1934 in Barrio Obrero, Santurce, Puerto Rico. She was the second oldest of four siblings. She lived in Puerto Rico until the age of 11, at which time her family relocated to Brooklyn, NY.

She graduated from Sarah J. Hale Vocational High School. Elba went on to attend Jameson School of Ministry where she obtained her diploma in Biblical Theology, becoming an ordained minister on January 1, 1998. Throughout her life she was very active with the women's ministry in both the English and Spanish Churches.

Elba met Juan Antonio Negron in 1955. They dated for two years and then were married on February 2, 1957, in Brooklyn, NY. Together they were blessed with three sons, Juan Antonio Jr., Blanes, and David. They moved to Vineland, NJ in 1960. She enjoyed watching her family grow. Elba was a great homemaker. She loved to cook, bake, and sew. She was a loving mother and grandmother, at times opening up her home to raise her grandchildren as her own. In her eyes, no sacrifice was too great when it came to helping her precious grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Juan Antonio Negron; two sons, Juan Antonio Negron, Jr. (Sylvia); Blanes Negron (Penny); and was preceded in death by her son David Negron; two sisters, Alida Sanchez and Maria Seijo, and preceded in death by her brother Juan Antonio Colon, Jr.; 7 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Elba passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August, 30, 2020, after a courageous battle against cancer. Even after her debilitating diagnosis, she continued to attempt to spend as much time with her grandchildren as she could. Elba will be forever remembered for her loving and generous heart and for her love of family.
