Evelyn was born on June 10, 1955, in the Bronx, New York. She was a woman whose presence could light up any room. Funny, strong-willed, loyal, loving, selfless, and God fearing . Evelyn had a way of making everyone around her feel like family. To many she was more than a friend or relative—she was truly a mother to all.
Evelyn lived a life defined by strength, resilience, and unwavering love for the people closest to her. With a fierce spirit and a heart full of tough love, she faced life’s many challenges with courage and an unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ. You may have seen her struggle, but you never saw her give up. Her faith in the Lord carried her through every storm, including her courageous battle with cancer, which she overcame with determination and grace.
Music was one of Evelyn’s greatest joys. She loved all kinds of music, and when she danced, her energy and happiness were contagious. Her laughter, her rhythm, and her joyful spirit filled every room she entered, leaving lasting memories for everyone blessed enough to witness it.
Above all else, Evelyn’s greatest pride and devotion was her family. She poured her heart into caring for them, always putting their needs before her own. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent loving, guiding, and celebrating them.
Evelyn is lovingly survived by her children: Jennifer and husband Samuel Bermudez; Joseph and wife Jessica Silva II; and Andre Silva. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Elisha and wife Kaylee Silva; Sel (Gabriel) Silva; Aaliyah Phillips; Mariah Silva; Joseph Silva III; Giovanni Bermudez; Isabella Bermudez; and Jeremiah Silva, along with her cherished great-grandchildren, Alani Evans and Eli Silva.
She is also deeply missed by her brother, Alex Vargas, and his daughter, Alexandra Vargas, as well as her Aunt Lula and extended family from New Jersery, New York and Florida. And many others whose lives she touched with her love and kindness.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother, Lydia Vargas , and her brother, Pierre Vargas. She now joins her beloved husband, Joseph Silva Sr., reunited once again in the heavenly presence of the Lord.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort in knowing that her love, strength, and beautiful spirit will live on through the family she cherished so deeply. Her legacy of faith, perseverance, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Evelyn’s life on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 PM at Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave., Vineland, New Jersey. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13th at 11:00 am at New Life World Outreach Center, where family and friends may gather from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Following the service, Evelyn will be laid to rest in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him.”
