Obituary

Girard Kent Walmsley passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 85 at Elmwood Hills in Blackwood, NJ.  He was born in Philadelphia, PA to Jane and James Herbert Walmsley on April 13, 1939. He was raised and attended school in Northeast Philadelphia, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1957.  Kent enlisted in the army in 1959.  Upon completing his military service, he enrolled at Eastern Theological Seminary and became a Baptist minister.  He married Margaret Berstecher in 1965, they had 2 children.

Kent served as a minister for over 50 years with churches in Williamsport, PA; Inghams Mills, NY; Clayton NY and Camden, NJ.  Kent was an Eagle Scout and loved camping and the outdoors.  He served as the director for several church camps including Camp Hope, allowing him to combine his love for the outdoors and his love for the Lord.  He was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan.   As a minister in Camden, he was very involved with several organizations focused on community improvement and safety like Camden Churches Organized for People (CCOP).

Kent was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years,  Margaret, and is survived by his children James Scott Walmsley and Beth Acosta.

A memorial service will be held on March 29th at 11:00 am at 915 N 36th St Camden, NJ 08105
