Henry J. DiMatteo, age 90 of Vineland, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Inspira Medical Center. Henry was born in Boyle, Mississippi to the late Ralph and Ernesta (Fabbri) DiMatteo, he grew up and lived in Pittsburgh before moving to Vineland in 1982. Henry was an honorable Veteran of the US Navy and served during WWII. During his military service, he earned 4 Bronze Battle Stars in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and 2 Bronze Battle Stars in the Philippines Liberation. Henry was proud to serve as a Hard Hat Diver and in a Motor Torpedo Squadron. Later as a Veteran, Henry was instrumental in establishing the VA Out-Patient Clinic in Vineland. He worked tirelessly in his efforts helping Veterans to register for medical benefits. This was Henry's passion in life and in doing so he received many distinguished awards including, the Jefferson Award Medallion, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition signed by Congressman Frank LoBiondo, and the Daughters of American Revolution Award. He was also recognized by municipal, county and state officials for his work with Veterans. While in Pittsburgh, Henry founded the Ingram Palace Little League Association. Prior to his retirement, He was a self-employed building contractor for over 45 years. He enjoyed his involvement with youth and community services. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Patricia Fiamingo-DiMatteo of Vineland. His 3 daughters; Eleanor Bobo of Midwest City, OK, Betsy Spagnolo of Punta Gorda, FL. and Cynthia DiMatteo of Pittsburgh, PA. His brother, Ralph DiMatteo and wife Donna and his sister Mary Kijanka all of Pittsburgh, PA. He is also survived by 5 grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren. Henry was predeceased by his sister Josephine Kern and by his brother John DiMatteo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 16th at 10:00 am at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 1010 E. Landis Ave. Vineland. Burial will follow in Laurel Memorial Park, Egg Harbor Twp. Family and friends may gather on Friday from 9:00 - 10:00 am at the Church.
