Sadly, Irving "Myer" Glick passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2017.He was born in Blonie, a suburb of Warsaw in Poland. He was the sole Holocaust survivor of the family of 6 siblings and parents. He was in the uprising of the Warsaw Ghetto as well as the concentration camps of Majdanek and Auschwitz-Birkenau.
For many years he spoke of his experiences to children of all ages, as well as adults. He was the recipient of the Miles Lerman Holocaust Education Award for his dedication to keeping alive the memory of the six million Jews who perished.
He was the owner of Tri-City Lumber in Vineland and an active member of Beth Israel Synagogue for many years. He served on the Board of Directors, was a member of the Men's Club, sang in the synagogue choir and was the shofar blower for the High Holidays for many years. He was also a member of B'nai Brith, the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC and a proud Hadassah Associate. He was honored several times by the Bat Ami chapter of Hadassah for his involvement in their projects and also honored by the Southern New Jersey Region of Hadassah.
He was an accomplished amateur artist in all media, including stained glass. He had exhibits at the Vineland Public Library as well as Cumberland County College. He had won several ribbons at the Senior Art Show, both locally and at the state level. He loved taking videos of his children and grandchildren.
Three years ago he moved to Marlton, NJ with his wife to be closer to his children. He became a member of Beth El congregation in Voorhees.
He is survived by his loving wife Nella (Distenfeld) of 58 years, Children Eli Glick (Robin) of Lafayette Hill, PA, Ethel Rosenberg, of Mount Laurel, NJ & Susan Cancell, of Marlton NJ; grandchildren Jason & Evan Rosenberg and Samantha & Alexander Cancell, sister-in-law Yetta Bergstein and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held today, Monday, May 29, 2017 at 1pm at Beth Israel Synagogue at 1015 E. Park Avenue in Vineland. Interment will follow at Alliance Cemetery on Gershal Avenue in Norma, NJ.
Shiva will be observed at the home of his daughter, Susan Cancell, at 36 Albany Road in Marlton NJ at 7pm on Monday, May 29, 2017..
