Obituary

Israel Gonzalez, age 91 of Vineland, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Israel was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico to the late Miguel and Clemencia (Gonzalez) Gonzalez-Roman and he lived in Vineland most of his life. He served as an Army Sergeant during the Korean War conflict.

He was a HVAC Engineer for Showboat Casino in Atlantic City for many years until his retirement, but anyone who knew him knew he was a professional tinkerer. He could always be found in his garage or shed "messing around". Along with his Mr. Fix It ways, he was known far and wide for his infamous arroz con gandules, of which you could almost always find a fresh pot on the stove. He loved to cook because he loved to feed people. If went to his house, you were guaranteed to eat something (whether you were hungry or not) and always have a cup of coffee. He loved hunting for antiques, fishing, making stained glass and working with his hands. Yet, of all the things he loved, he loved his family most. Everything he did, he did for his family. His legacy will continue through them.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years- Luz E. (Soto) Gonzalez of Vineland, his 3 children, Haydee, Israel Jr., and Mariluz, his 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Maria & Tania.

Private burial will be held and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, Vineland.
