Jose Antonio Garcia, age 85, of Vineland went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Veteran's Memorial Home in Vineland, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.

Jose was born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico to the late Cecilio Garcia and Rosa Maria Garcia DelValle.  He spent most of his childhood in Puerto Rico and came to New York City in 1959. He lived in Vineland for the past 42 years after moving here from Woodbine where he previously resided for 14 years.

Jose retired from the NJ Department of Corrections after 25 years of service.  He worked at Bayside State Prison for 15 years and Southern State Correctional Facility for the remaining 10 years of his career.

Jose was proud of his service in the United States Army during the Korean War and wore his Korean War baseball cap to show his pride.  He was active in his church community in Woodbine and Vineland and was also a volunteer member of the Woodbine Ambulance Corps.  He enjoyed physical fitness and gardening as well as spending time with his family.

Jose was predeceased by his brothers Raul, Elmo, and Mario, as well as his sisters Diana, Rosa, Delores.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Hilda Esther Cruz Garcia of Vineland, his daughters Wanda Garcia of Mount Laurel, Lisa Loew (William) of Huntsville, Alabama, Yolanda Garcia Balicki (Robert) of Millville, Jacqueline Cortes (Gilbert) of Orlando, Florida, and Sonia Armstrong (Timothy) of Long Island, New York; Iraida Garcia of Guayama, Puerto Rico, Jose Antonio Garcia, Jr. of Orlando, Florida, Evelyn Garcia, of Freehold, NJ, Jose Garcia also of Florida, as well as a host of grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours will be held at the Vida de Fe (Life of Faith) Church at 1115 S. Main Road, Vineland, NJ, on Tuesday, July 25th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and on Wednesday, July 26th from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.  A funeral service will follow the viewing on Wednesday morning followed by his burial at the Cumberland County Veteran's Cemetery in Bridgeton, NJ.
