Joyce Ann Cortes, 75 of Millville, New Jersey passed away peacefully in her home, under the care of Hospice on Saturday, February 10, 2024 while being around family and friends.
Joyce was born on March 19, 1948 to the late Joseph and Lenora (Hester) Berry in Hinton, West Virgina and moved to Bridgeton NJ and grew up in Hopewell NJ. She worked for the family business Berry's Farm Market – on Shiloh Pike Bridgeton, NJ. She credited her early life with instilling a love of caretaking of others as she was a Certified Nurse's Aide at Garden State Hospital – Marlton New Jersey. She was one of the first female boxing managers for the State of New Jersey – Austino's Boxing Gym, Williamstown NJ. She worked as a Security Officer at the Trump Castle Casino, Atlantic City NJ. She also worked in the phone center for the Home Depot in Washington Twp. NJ
Joyce met her first husband, John R. Austino Sr., in 1963 while attending Bridgeton High School and were later married in 1965 and they had two sons. After the two divorced in 1989. Joyce met and married Mechael Cortes in 1990 and conceived a daughter and were divorced in 2006.
Joyce enjoyed dancing and spending time at the South Jersey Beaches as she liked being barefooted and feeling the sand between her toes. She enjoyed getting out of the house spending time with family and friends. Law and Order, CSI and Lifetime were just a couple of her favorite shows. Some of her hobbies were Farmville, Candy Crush and Facebook.
Joyce is survived by her three children; John R. Austino Jr. wife, Faith; Jeffery Austino; Michelle L. Cortes significant other Marvin Johnson; Brother Joseph Berry and wife Carol; Brother Michael Husted wife, Johnnie Lou. Grandchildren; Stephanie M. Austino, Justin Austino, Dominic Austino and Aliciana A. Johnson. Great-grandchild; Colson Inman.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 16th at 11:00 am at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland, with Rev. Douglas Heckman officiating. Interment will follow in Fernwood Cemetery, Hopewell Twp. Family and friends may gather from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the funeral home, prior to the service.
Arrangements are in the care of Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, Vineland.
