June "Judy" Hagerthey (Pennington) Cooper, passed on April 5, 2015 at Inspira Medical Center, Vineland, NJ due to complications from an extended illness. Judy was born December 3, 1935 to Glendon and June (Madden) Pennington and was raided in Port Elizabeth, NJ by her maternal grandmother Edna Maude Madden. Her stepmother, Helen was loved by Judy and held a special place in her heart. Judy attended Millville High School, was a talented artist and an active horse club member with her mare, Debbie. Richard and Judy Cooper met at a dance and were married two years later in January 1964. Together, they built and ran a successful business, Cooper Asphalt Paving in Vineland, NJ until its dissolution upon retirement in 2004. Judy and Richard enjoyed traveling and activities with family and friends. So her "ready for anything" personality made spontaneous vacations, day trips fishing on their boats, last minute backyard barbeques accommodating anywhere from five to thirty people and unplanned camping trips in their motor home common occurrences which she handled effortlessly. Judy saw only the good in everyone and everyone she met was a friend. She also never met a beach, yard sale, flea market or chocolate cake she didn't like. Her greatest passion, though, was her work as Critter Mom, a Wildlife Rehabilitator licensed by the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife. During her time as Critter Mom, she rescued, cared for and rehabbed squirrels, bunnies, small birds, raccoons, owls, groundhogs and fawns until they were old enough or strong enough to be successfully released back into the wild. Judy will be remembered for her love of laughter, spirit of adventure, kindness and her compassion. Judy is survived by her husband Richard Cooper, daughter Shirley DelZotto (Jim), stepson Quey James Cooper (Liddie), sister Carol Pennington, brother Robert Pennington (Susan), sister in law Shirley (Cooper) Hicks, grandsons Quey James Cooper, Jr. (Margaret), Charlie Cooper (Lizzy), Richard Cooper (Elizabeth), Tom Cooper (Tiffany), 4 great grandsons, 5 great granddaughters, several nieces and nephews and friends to numerous to name. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 10th at 1:00 pm at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Millville. Family and friends may gather from 11:00 - 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
