Katherine H. Durand, age 89, of Pittsgrove, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2013 in Inspira Medical Center, Vineland. Katherine was born in Vineland to the late Paul E. and Katherine (Roane) Durand, she was a lifelong Vineland resident before moving to Pittsgrove. Katherine was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1941. Like her mother, Katherine was a nurse. She graduated from Cooper Hospital School of Nursing in Camden. She served in the US Army as a Second Lieutenant during WWII, at Bruns Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Katherine later was employed by Newcomb Hospital and Elmer Community Hospital, where she was the head operating room nurse until her retirement in 1983. The love of Katherine's life were her nieces, nephews and family. Katherine is survived by her sister, Theresa Lindley and husband Joseph, of Daytona Beach, Fl. Her sister-in-law, Margaret "Ann" Durand of Santa Fe, N.M. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. Private family funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18th at 11:00 am at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
