He attended school in Vineland and when he was 17 years old, his father signed a school release to allow him to join the Marines.
Lacey spent most of his life employed as an over the road truck driver. He worked for many private owned truck companies, the last being Foundry Service Corporation. Lacey was diagnosed with diabetes and eventually, due to his health, had to retire from the job he loved. He then went on to work at the Vineland Road Department, Wheaton Glass in Millville and for Empire Steel in Millville, prior to his final retirement.
Lacey loved to hunt, especially with a bow and arrow or a shot gun. He hunted squirell, rabbit, raccoon, groundhog and deer. In the off season, Lacey and his wife Susan, enjoyed walks in the Wildlife Management Areas together with their dogs. The loved observing nature, wildlife and all of its beauties, especially the serenity of the peaceful woods. A true outdoorsman, Lacey also loved to fish, both fresh and salt water, crabbing and digging for clams.
