Obituary

Leonard Henry "Lenny" Myers, age 86, of Richland passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease on Monday, May 21, 2012. Born at home in Mizpah to the late Catherine (Reed) and Benjamin L. Myers II, Len attended Pleasantville High School and was a resident of Richland/Mizpah area for most of his life. After high school, he worked in civil service with Signal Corp in Fort Monmouth, NJ as an instrument maker. In 1943, Len enlisted in the Navy and became an aerial gunner throughout WWII. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he met and married the love of his life, Marlene Vanaman in 1953. Len was employed by Pegolotti's Garage and drove for Garden State Beverage. He began working for United Parcel Service as a delivery man in 1962. He retired from UPS in September 1985 with over 20 years of service. Len served on the Hamilton Township Board of Education from 1964-1972. He was a lifetime member of the Mizpah Volunteer Fire Company and belonged to the Free Masons Unity Lodge, F &AM #96 of Mays Landing. He was very handy and enjoyed fixing things, especially anything that had a motor. He was able to do many household repairs and home improvement projects. Len also planted a large garden every year, enjoyed travelling with his wife and children, going to the casinos, reading and doing crossword puzzles. Most of all, he was very proud of his family and home. Len was predeceased by his brothers Benjamin L. Myers III and Harvey J. Myers, and brother-in-law Phillip Falasco. Leonard is survived by his very loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Marlene "Chickie" (Vanaman) Myers; his loving children, daughter Cynthia Myers, son Karl and his wife Dora Myers, all of Richland; grandchildren Antoinette Flath and husband Rich of Dorothy; Joanne Breckenridge and husband Scott of Westville, Indiana. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren; Megan and Sarah Flath and Joshua Breckenridge, and his sister-in-law Thelma Falasco of Vineland. A memorial service to celebrate Leonard's life will be held at a later date.
