Louis had a life filled with many adventures. During the days of the Depression, he traveled to Washington to pick apples. He served in the Air Force branch of the Army during World War II. Louis was a combination engineer and radar operator on the attack bomber, Flak Bait. This plane flew 202 missions with a grand total of 725 hours. The nose section of the plane is in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. A plaque lists the names of all the service men who flew in the plane. On his twenty third mission, Louis was shot down and held as a Prisoner of War in Stalag VII. Louis was awarded many medals, including the P.O.W. Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation. After his discharge from the service, he pursued his education and became a chiropractor, a profession he served for close to 50 years. An avid traveler, Louis and his wife traveled extensively throughout Europe, South America, Canada and the United States. His lists of accomplishments were great. He was active in human rights, particularly for the mentally ill. Louis served on the local Mental Health Board, was active in NAMI, and advocated for chiropractic care through serving on the State Chiropractic Board. He was honored by the Palmer School of Chiropractic for his 50 years of service. Louis will be sorely missed by his family and his silly spotted dog, Baby.
