Obituary

Luigi (Lou) A Tramontana Sr. 76 - of Vineland went to be with the Lord on the 5th of April 2013 with his family by his side at Jefferson Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, NY, his family moved to Vineland when he was a child where he resided until his passing. Lou was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Church of St. Isidore of Vineland. A graduate of Vineland High School, Class of 1954, Lou was a loving husband, father, brother and a good friend to all that knew him. A civic minded person, he joined Vineland Rotary Club in 1986 where he served as a board member and was a past president. Being involved with the Rotary he received the Director of the Year Award, Chaired the District Rotary Conference in 1997, and received the Rotary Club President's Award of excellence in 2003. Passionate about helping others, Lou was a co-chair of the Vineland Challenger League, which enables physically and mentally challenged boys and girls to enjoy the game of baseball. He was proud to be instrumental with overseeing the construction of the Rotary Center in 2004, a handicapped accessible facility which is home to the North Vineland Little League as well as the Challenger League. Lou was also involved with the Vineland YMCA since 1986, where he served as a board member, vice president and president. He was a member of The Movers and Warehouseman Association and Tariff Bureau of NJ, where he served as a past board member and president, receiving Board Member of the Year award in 1991. Lou was a board member of the Vineland Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Businessman of the Year Award in 2007. In 2012, Lou was selected by the Grapevine as one of Vineland's Hometown Heroes. Lou began his career in 1957 with G.L.F./Agway as an office manager and mill manager. In 1966 he was hired as a branch/operations manager of Wares Van and Storage ultimately named President/COO in 1990 until semi-retiring in 1995. He was later employed by Torchio Brothers Inc. During life's journey here on Earth, it is a rare opportunity to meet a man like Lou. If you were fortunate enough to cross paths with him, you experienced his love of life, family and the human spirit. Lou spent his life helping others. He found enjoyment in yard work, hunting and golfing with his lifelong friends, especially fishing, crabbing, and spending time with his beloved family and friends at his home in Sea Isle City. "May your martini ever be dirty and your cigar ever lit." Predeceased by his parents Evaristo and Agnese (Zattoni) Tramontana. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years Josephine (Provenzano); sons Luigi (Lisa) and Anthony (Danielle); brothers Rudolfo; Bruno; Edward (Debbie) and sister Lydia O'Rourke (Ernie). Sister in-laws Rosalie Ennis; Madeline Ripley; Antoinette Olsen (Dennis); brother in-law Joseph Provenzano (Judy). Grandchildren Douglas (DJ) and Carli Cherwien; Anthony Tramontana; extended family Brandon Brown; special niece Alena (Kenny) Blizzard; along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral liturgy will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Church of St. Isidore, 1655 Magnolia Road, Vineland, with Monsignor John Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Pompeii Cemetery, Vineland. Visitation hours are Monday 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m., all in the church of St. Isidore. Arrangements are under the supervision of the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, Vineland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Challenger League c/o Vineland Rotary Club P.O.
