IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Luis M.
Vega
March 12, 1940 – May 18, 2025
Luis Manuel Vega passed away on the morning of May 18, 2025. Born on March 12, 1940 in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Luis spent 85 beautiful years among friends and family.
At the age of 13, he moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he would eventually become an entrepreneur. With a love for singing and dancing, he bought part ownership in a local dance club as a young man. Later on, he would sell his share, move to Staten Island, New York, and buy part of a candy distribution company. He found love when he met a young widow, Susan Thompson, and her son James. They married and had two children, Justin and Ashley. Although they divorced, Luis and Susan remained extremely close friends until her passing in 2020.
Luis stayed active throughout his life; he loved to exercise and play sports. He loved the game of baseball, umpired Little League, and was an avid Mets fan after the Dodgers left Brooklyn. He especially loved the game of golf, and was a member of a number of different country clubs throughout his life. In his later years, he developed a fondness for gardening, growing the most delicious tomatoes and the most vibrant of flowers.
Luis retired in Vineland, New Jersey, and is survived by his sister, Lucy Vega, his three children and their spouses, James and Sabrina Thompson, Justin and Amanda Vega, and Ashley and Stephen Langan, and his grandchildren, James Thompson and Jack Thompson.
Luis' funeral will be held at Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, located at 1024 E Landis Ave, Vineland, NJ 08360, on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The viewing will begin for immediate family starting at 10:00 am, and open to friends and family from 11:00am - 1:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Ever Gonzales officiating. Following the service, Luis will be laid to rest in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.

Arrangements are in the care of Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, Vineland.
