Marilyn Encarnacion Née Kaster, 84 of Vineland passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Seashore Gardens Living Center.
Marilyn was born in Ontario, Canada to the late Harold Kaster and Dorothy Kaster Née Rickert. Her family immigrated to Philadelphia in 1958 and later settled in New Jersey. Marilyn was a resident of Vineland for over 50 years. Marilyn became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1964. She graduated from Gloucester County College in 1973, where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse.
She worked in various hospitals and nursing homes early in her career. She retired from the Vineland Developmental Center (State of NJ) after 25 years of service. After retirement she worked at Southern State Correctional Facility and Griswold Home Health Care. While she loved being a nurse, she especially enjoyed working as poll worker during elections. Marilyn volunteered with the American Red Cross and the Vineland Soup Kitchen. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Marilyn was a kind and caring person, always willing to lend a helping hand. She attended Calvery Chapel in Vineland for many years.
Marilyn is survived by her sons, David Hernandez of Philadelphia, PA; Robert Hernandez of Torrance, CA and daughter, Joanne Encarnacion of Vineland. Marilyn also leaves behind 7 grandchildren; David Hernandez Jr. (Kelly), Ronni Auld, Matthew K. Hernandez, Jonathan Y. Hernandez, Matthew B. Hernandez, Jasmine Ortiz and Corinne Ortiz. She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren; Ellis Hernandez, Avery Hernandez and Emmi Jackson. She is also survived by her niece, Karon Schleigh (Bryan) and nephews, John Chapman (Heather) and Kevin Chapman (Nicole), along with extended family.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Michael Kaster; 2 sisters, Karon Kaster and Linda Puglise and her son, Mark Hernandez.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to those who assisted in Marilyn's care and support to the family. A special thank you to Olga "Janet" Flores.
Relatives and friends will be received on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E Landis Ave, Vineland, NJ 08360. Interment will be private.
