IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marlene Lena
Myers
July 12, 1930 – January 16, 2019
Marlene Lena (Vanaman) Myers, age 88 of Richland, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
Born in Vineland to the late Marvin and Harriet (Pettit) Vanaman, Marlene was raised in Vineland, and was a graduate of Vineland High School, Class of 1948. When Marlene's mother passed away on the eve of her 21st birthday, without hesitation, Marlene stepped into the role of caring for her father and her younger sister. In 1953, Marlene met the love of her life, Leonard Myers, at a weekly dance held at the Buena Tavern. They were married 6 months later, and moved to Richland to build a home and raise a family. Marlene was a loving, devoted wife and mother, who stayed home while her children were young. She supported their activities and became a Girl Scout leader, and belonged to the Hamilton Township PTA. Marlene later began working for the Richland Post Office as a postal clerk until her retirement.
Marlene was an excellent cook and was famous for her special baked beans recipe. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, travelling, doing crossword puzzles, and attending summer concerts at the Michael Debbi Park in Buena. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, and especially with her great grandchildren.
Marlene was predeceased by her loving husband, Leonard H. Myers, in 2012. Len always lovingly called Marlene "Chickie".
Marlene is survived by her daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Ann Myers, and her son, Karl L. Myers and his wife Dora, all of Richland. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren; Antoinette Flath and her husband Rich, Joanne Breckenridge and her husband Scott, along with 3 great-grandchildren; Megan and Sarah Flath, and Joshua Breckenridge all of Dorothy; and by her sister, Thelma Falasco, of Vineland. Marlene will be very deeply missed by all who love her.
As per Marlene's wishes, funeral services will be private. Donations in memory of Marlene may be made to the Funny Farm Animal Rescue, 6908 Railroad Blvd, Mays Landing, NJ 08330 or to the Atlantic County SPCA, 240 Old Turnpike, Pleasantville, NJ 08232
