Obituary

Matilda Popovsky Smalley, affectionately known as Tillie, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at age 90. Born in Bridgeton, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Clara Blomberg Popovsky of Rosenhayn. She was a graduate of Bridgeton High School, Class of 1941. Following graduation she was employed as a legal secretary for many years. She was proficient in taking dictation in shorthand. Her ability to converse in Yiddish and Italian was a valuable asset to her employers. She had many interests and hobbies as well as being an excellent cook, flower gardener, and avid Phillies fan. She enjoyed reading, embroidering and crafts. Tillie was predeceased by her son, Donald Jr., husband Major Donald Smalley of the NJ State Police and brother Harry Popovsky. She is survived by her sister, Helen Ostroff (Morris), sister-in-law Irene Popovsky and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Siloam Cemetery, 550 N. Valley Ave., Vineland.
