Mitchell P. Coombs, age 52 of Vineland, passed away after a heroic four year battle with cancer on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at home. Mitchell was born on March 26, 1961 to the late Shirley I. (Secrest) Coombs and Richard F. Coombs and lived in Vineland all his life. He graduated from Vineland High School in 1979. He also earned an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Cumberland County College and graduated after three years at Kuberts School of Art in Dover, NJ Mitchell taught Art at Saint Mary Magdalen Elementary School in Millville and at The Immaculate Conception School in Bridgeton. He also freelanced paintings, authored several comic books and taught art at Ocean City Arts center. He was predeceased by his mother, Shirley I. Coombs in 2008. Mitchell is survived by his father, Richard F. Coombs of Vineland and two brothers, Stephen and Matthew Coombs. He also leaves behind several cousins here and in Ohio and Massachusetts and two nephews and one niece. Mitchell was a true Bohemian as he eschewed convention and lived by his own rules. He was truly a gentle person who loved all things living down to the smallest insect. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. Funeral liturgy will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 23rd from Christ the Good Sheppard Parish; Sacred Heart Church 1010 E. Landis Ave. Vineland, followed by entombment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mausoleum. Visitation hours are Friday evening 7:00-9:00 PM from the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home 1024 E.
