Nelson Flores, age 58 of Vineland, went home to the Lord on December 2, 2012. He was born on October 17, 1954 in Humacao, Puerto Rico to Isabel Figueroa and Hiplito Flores. Nelson attended area schools and Vineland High School until he joined the Navy in 1971. After his discharge, he returned to the Vineland and New York area and worked various jobs throughout his life. Nelson's greatest joys were his family, his children and grandchildren. His passion was sports and loved them all. He was an avid basketball player, handball, baseball and dominoes player, having played in many area domino leagues. Nelson also enjoyed coaching the game of basketball and for 14 years he was an assistant coach at the PAL League. Nelson was always the comedian, funny and always the odd man out. He truly danced to a different tune. He was predeceased by his mother Isabel Figueroa in September, 2012. Nelson is survived by his three loving children; Nelson Flores Jr. of Millville, NJ, Aisha Flores of Providence, RI and Candace Rivera of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ. His father, Hiplito Flores, his sister, Wilma Lopez, both of Vineland, and by his brother Octavio Morn of Brooklyn, NY. Nelson will be remembered by his grandchildren; Romeo Johnson, Alysia Johnson, Xavier Johnson and Jose Rivera Jr. And also by his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Nelson's family wishes to thank his caretakers from South Jersey HospiceCare, including Andrea, Sheri, Robert and all the other personnel he met during his illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 5th at 11:00am at the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Francis of Assisi Church, 23 W. Chestnut Ave. Vineland. Interment will follow in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland. Family and friends may gather on Wednesday from 9:00-11:00am at the Church.
