IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pastor Ernest
Harry Moore
January 16, 1932 – November 24, 2021
Pastor Ernest Harry Moore, 89 of Vineland, NJ, met his Lord and Savior on November 24, 2021 after exchanging his mortal body for one that is eternal. Greeting him in heaven were his beloved wife of 44 years, Winifred "Winnie" (Sullivan) Moore; his daughter, Diane Moore; parents, Ernest Wilbur Moore and Bertha (Beebe) Moore. He is survived by his wife of over 23 years, Helen (Baer) Moore from Vineland; children, Debbie Mullins and husband Dave from Franklinville; Ernest "Sam" Moore, Jr. and wife Holly from Newfield; Keith Irons and wife Rosalie from Nevada; Ken Irons and Christin from Vineland; Kurt Irons from Nevada; Kathy Seagrave and Will from Mercer County; fifteen cherished grandchildren and eight cherished great-grandchildren. Loved siblings by marriage, six brothers, six sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Ernie was born and raised in Vineland and lived there most of his life. He graduated from Vineland High School in 1950, where he received an award in art. After graduating high school, he briefly worked as a painter for Fritz von Reuter before being called into the ministry. He studied at the Philadelphia Bible Institute in 1955 and completed seminary at Houghton College before being ordained as a preacher in 1957. He began his ministry at Green Creek Community Church shortly after. He pastored several other churches including Barnsboro Bible; Bible Baptist Fellowship of Monroeville, NJ; First Baptist Church of Covington, Indiana; and Cedarville Baptist Church. In a short time, the congregation at Cedarville Baptist outgrew the building. With God's guidance and provision, Pastor Ernie Moore established Maranatha Baptist Church in 1981. He faithfully served the congregation there for thirty years until his "retirement" in 2011. That same year, he was honored as Pastor Emeritus of Maranatha. However, his retirement did not last long. Pastor Ernie Moore was not content just to sit still. He continued to do Bible studies at his daughter's home before being led to Calvary Bible Fellowship Church in 2015. He served as the pastor there until the Lord called him home.
While the list of his accomplishments is long, Ernie will most be remembered for the investments he made in people. To know Ernie was to love him. He didn't meet too many strangers. His laugh was infectious, and his hugs were inescapable. He had a way of making everyone feel welcomed. No one could leave his house without the best part of a meal – dessert. He made himself available when anyone needed him. Ernie had a great sense of humor as well. He loved telling jokes, but he was often laughing too hard to finish them. He never missed an opportunity to throw a crumpled napkin or wrapping paper at family gatherings when no one was looking. It was just his ornery streak. He also loved to play games. More specifically, he loved to win games. He hosted many friends and family so they could go "head to head" as he put it. Some of his favorites were golfing, quoits, dominoes and numerous card games. He had many other hobbies and interests as well. He liked collecting eagles, clocks, and Thomas Kinkade memorabilia. He also enjoyed watching Westerns, especially anything starring John Wayne. He often took short trips to Lancaster to relax. His trips to Zion National Park were where he could see the mountains "pointing to Heaven". His favorite vacation destination was Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Family trips to Gatlinburg were some of his most cherished memories.
Above all, Pastor Ernie Moore loved the Lord. He dedicated his life to helping others trust Him as their Savior. He was passionate about missions, and he helped many around the world spread the gospel. He also loved studying God's Word. He spent countless hours in his library reading, and he would always get excited when he gleaned a new "nugget" of truth. One could write several books just using his notes in his numerous Bibles, especially on his favorite topic – prophecy. He poured the love of Christ into anyone he met, and his life is a shining example of a "good and faithful servant." He leaves behind a legacy of faith, and we will all cherish his memory until we see him again. For "it's not goodbye, it's just goodnight. I'll see you in the morning."
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Maranatha Baptist Church, 1524 Bridgeton Millville Pike, Millville, NJ 08332. A celebration of his life will follow. Private burial will be at Siloam Cemetery, Vineland, NJ. All are welcomed to fellowship after the service and share memories of Pastor Moore.
