Paul J. Kimmel, 95, of Vineland, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2023, at the N.J. Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland.
Paul was born in Altoona, Pa on December 11, 1927, and was the son of the late Edgar and Catherine (Staehr) Kimmel. In 1945 at the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served as a Fireman First Class on the U.S.S. Kearsarge, U.S.S. Gillian, and U.S.S Artemis and participated in Operation Crossroads, Atomic Bomb Test at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands.
Paul worked for the Altoona Pennsylvania Railroad for several years before moving to Johnstown, PA in 1953 to work for Bethlehem Steel Company where he became a machinist. In 1961, he moved to Vineland, NJ and was employed at Owens-Illinois Kimble Glass Company as a machinist for 28 years until he retired in 1989. Paul was a dedicated, hard-working man who loved being with his family. He was always fascinated with old trains, enjoyed watching science fiction movies, traveling, gardening, and attending Sunday Mass. He was always ready to help his family, friends, and neighbors with home repairs and other various projects.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, and brothers John, Richard, and Leo Kimmel; and his sister Betty English and one nephew.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Anna (Swisher) Kimmel, and their four loving children, Janet McLaughlin (Tom) of Florida, Thomas Kimmel, Jean Marrongelli (Frank) and Daniel Kimmel (Melissa) of Vineland; and five grandchildren, Shanna (McLaughlin) Cain, Joseph McLaughlin, Joseph Marrongelli, Tara Marrongelli, and Tyler Kimmel; and two great-grandchildren, Parker Cain and Tommy Cain; as well as six nieces and two nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 from the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Francis Church, 23 West Chestnut Ave, Vineland, NJ. Burial will follow in Scared Heart Cemetery, Vineland, NJ. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 10-11 AM prior to the liturgy.
