Ramon Mercado was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, in 1937. He is the son of the late Trinidad Mercado and Elvira Bermudez. He has four sisters and three brothers.

He arrived in this city from Vineland in 1955 with his family. Despite facing an English language barrier, he began working at the Toarmina Factory, now known as Progreso Foods.

In 1958, he married Miss Eliojilda Martínez. This union produced eight daughters and an adopted son. In 1962, he and his brother-in-law Ricardo Santiago, better known as Guillo, purchased a warehouse located at 306 SW Boulevard, known as the Utuadeña Food Market.  The business was sold to the late Sarrail Acosta in 1966.

From 1966 to 1968, he sold clothing and miscellaneous items at agricultural camps. In 1968, he started an insect extermination business called Mercado's Exterminating. In 1969, he started another maintenance business called Landis Office Cleaning.

In 1982, he decided to dedicate himself to a single business, Landis Office Cleaning, which is no longer active.

In 1982, he married for the second time, to Ms. Luberky Guerrero. From this union, they had two children, Raymond Jr. and Diana.

In 1995, he began another commercial venture. This time, he started the Good Taste company, which sold coconut, pineapple, and all kinds of American ice cream.  This company operated until 2000.

In 1997, he and his wife started a home rental business, which ended in 2024.

Ramon has been active in political affairs since 1982 and was a member of the Puerto Rican Festival of NJ, Inc.

Ramon is survived by his loving wife Luberky A. (Guerrero) Mercado of Newfield.

His children from Oldest to youngest are Camila Collazo,(David) Demarie Cordero,(Hector) Noemi DeJesus,(Joaquin), Olga Harmon, (Eddie) Elvera Maldonado (Ivan) Rebecca Kapsis, (Gus) Migdalia Mercado, (Jesus), Janet Lebron,(Orlando),Sylvia Mercado died 1 week after birth. He was currently convalescing at home and was permanently retired with his wife and children, before his passing on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2nd, 2025 at 11:00 AM from the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland. Family and friends may gather in the funeral home on Friday from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.

Ramon Mercado nació en Utuado, Puerto Rico en el año 1937. Hijo de los fenecidos Trinidad Mercado y Elvira Bermudez. Él tiene cuatro hermanas y tres hermanos.

El llego a esta ciudad de Vineland en el 1955 junto a su familia. Aunque tenía la barrera del idioma de inglés, el comenzó a trabajar en la Factoría Toarmina, ahora conocida como Progreso Foods.

En el 1958, contrajo matrimonio con la Srta. Eliojilda Martínez. De esta unión procrearon ocho hijas y un hijo adoptivo. En el 1962, junto a su cuñado Ricardo Santiago, mejor conocido por Guillo, compraron una bodega localizada en el 306 SW Boulevard y conocida como la Utuadeña Food Market. La cual se la vendieron a él fenecido Sarrail Acosta en el 1966.

Durante los años del 1966 hasta el 1968, vendía ropas y misceláneas por los campamentos agrícolas. En el 1968, el comenzó un negocio de exterminador de insectos, llamado Mercado's Exterminating. En el 1969, el comenzó otro negocio distinto. Uno de mantenimiento llamado Landis Office Cleaning.

En el 1982, el decidió dedicarse a un solo negocio, Landis Office Cleaning, en el cual no estamos activos actualmente.

En el 1982, contrajo matrimonio por segunda vez con la Srta. Luberky Guerrero. De esta unión, procrearon dos hijos, Raymond Jr. y Diana.

Le sobreviven su esposa, Luberky Mercado y sus hijos;
Camila Collazo, (David) Demarie Cordero, (Hector) Noemi DeJesus, (Joaquin), Olga Harmon, (Eddie) Elvera Maldonado (Ivan) Rebecca Kapsis, (Gus) Migdalia Mercado, (Jesus), Janet Lebron, (Orlando), Sylvia Mercado murió 1 semana después de nacer. Ramón Mercado Jr (Chelsie) y Diana Mercado.

El funeral se llevará a cabo el viernes 2 de mayo de 2025 a las 11:00 a. m. en la Funeraria Wainwright-Bernhardt, ubicada en 1024 E. Landis Ave., Vineland. Los familiares y amigos podrán reunirse en la funeraria el viernes de 10:00 a 11:00 a. m. El entierro se realizará posteriormente en el Cementerio Siloam de Vineland.
