Obituary

Robert Walton Ellis peacefully went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 23rd, 2017. Bob is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Dawn Ellis, his daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Paul Giorgi, grandson, Robert Ellis, granddaughter and her husband, Kathleen and Scott Cherry, and great-grandchildren, Natalie and Calvin Cherry.

Bob was born on August 10, 1924, in Vineland New Jersey, the second child of Ralph and Grace Ellis. Bob was raised with his older sister Charlotte by his father and his aunt Alberta. While growing up, Bob's playmate was a friend named Wayne who lived across the street. Bob and Wayne used to have fun playing with snakes and engaging in other mischievous things that little boys love to do. Wayne later married Bob's sister, Charlotte.

In 1943, when Bob was nineteen years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was on active duty for the next three years. He served in Australia, the Philippines, and also sailed to Sasebo, Japan, before being honorably discharged. Upon returning to Vineland, he was an apprentice at the Kimble Glass Company for four years. He also met his wife, Joyce Kroelinger, in Vineland, and was married in 1950. Bob and his bride then moved to Longview, Texas, to study at LeTourneau Technical Institute (now LeTourneau University). Son Rob, was born in 1952. Upon graduating in 1953 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, the family moved back to Vineland where, in 1955, they welcomed the arrival of their second child, Joy. While in Vineland, Bob was employed at Kimble Glass as a Furnace Design Engineer, and worked there for forty years. He "retired" in 1993, but immediately began working part-time at Wheaton Glass Company for another seventeen years.

Bob loved his home church, Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church, in Vineland. At various times, he served as deacon, elder, choir member, Junior Church director, and Adult Choir director. More recently, Bob was an active member of Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Newark, Delaware. Besides singing in his home church and other local churches, Bob was a member of, and tenor soloist for, the Singing Ambassadors of Vineland for 30 years. Bob loved to sing, especially when his son Rob, or grandson Robert, accompanied him on the piano. Additionally, Bob was a stained-glass artist. He made countless of sun-catchers, lamps, large glass panels and other unique designs.

A memorial for Bob will take place on January 26th, 2017, at Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Newark Delaware, located at 308 Possum Park Road. Visitation and viewing will be held at 6 o'clock pm, with a funeral service at 7 o'clock pm. Bob will be laid to rest next to his wife, Joyce K. Ellis, on Friday January 27th, 2017 at 10 o'clock am at Siloam Cemetery in Vineland, New Jersey.
