Robert L. "Bob" Hartsell Jr., age 82, of Vineland rejoined his beloved family in heaven for what is without a doubt one very happy reunion on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving family when he went to his rest following a brief series of illnesses.

His humor and tremendous heart will be missed by all who knew him, but especially by his adoring and treasured wife of 55 years, Nydia (Barreto) Hartsell, his cherished daughters, Tiffany Hartsell and Pamela (Hartsell) Stokes, once and current sons-in-law Joel Hodgson and Keith Stokes, and his sun, moon and stars, his grandchildren, Veronica and Mateo Hodgson and Elijah Stokes, as well as his loving sister Joan (Hartsell) Shaw and the nieces and nephews he doted on. He was predeceased by his father Robert L. Hartsell, Sr., mother Edna E. (Ernst) Hartsell, and his sister Bette (Hartsell) Costello.

Bob moved to Vineland at the age of 8 and was a graduate of Vineland High School, Class of 1958. From a family with a tradition of military service, Bob was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. He went on to become a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and worked for New Jersey Bell, AT&T and Verizon before retiring. He served his community with pride on the Planning Board, as a coach for Vineland Pigtail League softball, and in the Lion's Club.

He was known for his gift of gab and sense of humor, as well as his passionate devotion to his family. For lack of a bigger word, he was A Character in the very best way, as anyone who met him could attest. He loved God, his family, his friends, his country, Ocean City beaches, the Phillies, and trips to Walt Disney World. Equal parts rapscallion and raconteur, he always led with love and a knowing twinkle in his blue eyes.

There was only one Bob Hartsell, and while he's gone on to the next life leaving many broken hearts here, he made the absolute most of his time on Earth, and we will carry fond, happy memories full of love, laughter and stories for a lifetime. For that, we can only be profoundly grateful.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM from the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland, with Rev. Karen W. Bernhardt officiating. Family and friends may gather from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday, prior to the service.
