Obituary

Salvatore Chianti, age 68 of Vineland, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Inspira Medical Center, Vineland. Born in Pittsburgh, PA he was the son of Cecilio and Esther Echeandia. Salvatore is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Luz Chianti, and by his two daughters and his son. He graduated from Cumberland County College with an A.A.S. degree in Police Sciences, and then graduated from the Vineland Police Academy and the United States Naval Academy. While in the Navy, he served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged earning the Bronze Star. Salvatore was retired from the Cumberland County Social Security Administration Office, as well as the Vineland Police Department. He was the first Hispanic bilingual police officer in South Jersey. While serving with the Vineland Police Department, Salvatore was instrumental in organizing the first P.A.L. in Vineland. Sal was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. He loved carpentry, gardening and especially enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle. He will be remembered most as a man of character and strength who was passionate about faith, family and country.
