Stephen (Steve) Scott Pearce, 56, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, after a brief hospital stay in Tampa, Florida, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Elmer, New Jersey, in 1970, Steve was a graduate of Vineland High School, Class of 1988.
Steve developed a passion for the water at an early age and spent much of his youth swimming for the Vineland YMCA and exploring Camp Merrywood Lake. During his teenage years, he worked as a lifeguard at several of his father’s management properties and could often be found at the bow of his grandfather’s boat, or swimming in the family pool. An all-around athlete, Steve was an avid swimmer and played football and track and field at Vineland High School, where he competed in the javelin.
Steve had a lifelong fascination with meteorology and frequently studied weather patterns and major storms. After attending Iowa State University, he began what would become a 25-year career in the maritime industry, working as a Ship Chandler for Rice Unruh Reynolds and, most recently, Delaware Ship Supply. He was a trusted colleague, respected industry expert, and valued friend to many. Steve possessed a unique ability to connect with ship captains from around the world, engaging in lengthy conversations and developing a genuine appreciation for different cultures and experiences.
An avid traveler, Steve developed a love for food and became an accomplished cook and grill master. He continued his passion for fishing and life on the water when he purchased a home on Malaga Lake, where he resided for many years. Steve had a tremendous heart and frequently opened his home to anyone in need of help, encouragement, or friendship.
You could often find him listening to Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers broadcasts at full volume while enthusiastically imitating his favorite play-by-play announcers. A devoted Philadelphia sports fan, he also held a special passion for Ohio State football. Steve was often the life of the party, the host of the gathering, and the person who made everyone feel welcome.
Most recently, Steve relocated to Punta Gorda, Florida, where he enjoyed waterfront living, listening to the Dave Matthews Band, and traveling throughout the country. He played the keyboard, guitar, and drums, and his love of music and dancing remained a constant throughout his life. He also developed a love for the local hockey team, Florida Everblades, where he became a fixture at the games and proud supporter.
Steve will be remembered for his humor, infectious laugh, honesty, generosity, and unwavering kindness toward others.
He is survived by his longtime partner, Linda White; his mother, Jane (Gallucci) Pearce; and his brother, Todd; as well as many loving relatives and lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve’s honor to Village Trappers, a local nonprofit organization supporting cats of all ages, located at 603 Holmes Ave. Vineland, NJ 08361 or via their Facebook page.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a future date.
