W. Dare Snyder

Bill was a long-time Strawbridge & Clothier executive responsible for all Fashion Merchandising, setting the taste level for interior design and home furnishings. He was the principal designer creating sample apartments for a number of notable residential buildings in Philadelphia leading the return of many to the city, including the Hopkinson House (Washington Square), Society Hill Towers (I.M. Pei), The Windsor, Kennedy House, and others. A lifelong member of ASID (the American Society of Interior Designers), Bill brought a true flair to everything he touched.

Following retirement from Strawbridge, he and his partner Marlin started their own very successful interior design, furnishings and accessories business - Boxwood & Ivy - based in Mauricetown, NJ through 2014. The house and design studio was a regular highlighted feature on the Mauricetown Christmas Historic House Tour for over 10 years. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert and Philip Snyder Jr. He is survived by his partner and husband of 46 years, Marlin Tompkins, now living in Vineland, NJ as well as his niece (Sharon and husband Rick Hynds of Phoenix, AZ), nephew (Steve Snyder and wife Jean Thomas of Princeton, NJ) and their children.

He was a graduate of Drexel University, BA in Business Administration and early in his career, active with the Philadelphia Lyric Opera Company. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Millville NJ 08332

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM from the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland. Family and friends may gather from 1:00-2:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
