William "Bill" A. Marchesano, 61, of Vineland, passed away at his residence on Friday, August 17, 2012, after a heroic battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Bill was born and raised in Franklin Township; a graduate of Delsea High School (Class of 1969) and Camden County Technical School . He graduated from Cumberland County College and Glassboro State College. Bill was an Automotive Technology teacher at Camden County Technical School in Sicklerville and retired after over 30 years. He was a devoted teacher and was named "Teacher of the Year" for the 2002-2003 school year. He helped to develop the Automotive Technology Curriculum and contributed to making the program a national model for students with disabilities. Bill was a member of the New Jersey Education Association and Vocational Education Association of New Jersey. Bill served on the Automotive Advisory Committee and was a class advisor for several years, striving to assist his students in job placement after graduation. He enjoyed facilitating field trips for his students to Englishtown raceway and developing elaborate open house programs to promote vocational programs in the community. Bill was always eager to lend a hand with the various committees and activities at the school and was loved and respected by all of his colleagues. Bill was an avid weightlifter. He was a four-time Tri-State Weightlifting Champion, 1968 National Junior Olympics Champion and Place winner at many Masters Nationals and State Championships, including a Gold Medalist in the 1992 Masters Pan American Championships. Bill enjoyed coaching his children's sports teams throughout the years. He also loved traveling, crabbing, hunting, making wine and spending time with his family and friends. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Patti (Farabella), with whom they would have celebrated 35 years of marriage next month; daughter, Jana; sons, Billy and Brad; daughter-in-law, Alison; grandson, Brock; mother, Antoinette; brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Julie; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Manny; as well as his loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other close family members. He is predeceased by his father, Pasquale. A viewing will be held between 1 and 4pm, with a prayer service at 3:30pm, on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home 1024 East Landis Avenue, Vineland, NJ. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter.
