William R. Murphy, age 80 of Vineland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 24th 2015 at home. William was born in Vineland to the late William G. and Erma Irene (Kyte) Murphy and lived in Vineland all of his life. He graduated from Vineland High School Class of 1952. William was an US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was Chaplain of Local VFW in Vineland. Prior to retirement, he was a Specification Analyst for Owens-Illinois Inc. (Kimble Glass Division) of Vineland for 35 years. He also was a part-time Car Salesman all his life. He was known for his outstanding tenor singing voice. He sang for the Presbyterian Church Choirs of Cape May and Vineland, of which he was a member. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, crabbing, fishing and horseback riding. William was predeceased by his wife, Ingeborg "Inge" (Doettling) Murphy in 2008, his son Michael Patrick Murphy in 1961 and his sister-in-law Astrid Shoemaker in 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Victoria R. Murphy of Tioga County, Pa. and Michelle CM Russo (Nick) of Vineland. 3 Grandchildren, Christine VanDergrift (Jeremy) of Tioga County, Pa., Elizabeth Costanzo of Tioga County, Pa. and Corinne N. Russo of Vineland. 2 Great-Grandsons, Jaxon and Jefferson VanDergrift at home. Also survived by his sister, Patricia Irene Musser (Charles) of Carney's Point, NJ and his companion Louise Whetsel of Vineland and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 29th at 11:00 AM from the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland with Rev. John D. Fordyce officiating. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery. Visitation hours are Tuesday evening 7:00-9:00 PM and again on Wednesday 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
