Our History

Eldon J. Wainwright - Founder
In 1933, in a cozy house on South State St. Vineland, NJ, a small funeral business was founded by Eldon J. and Allegro Wainwright. Shortly after, their funeral business grew with the trust and confidence of the Vineland community and in 1950, they purchased a parcel of land at 1024 East Landis Ave. and built a modern funeral home for the times. Still located in the heart of Vineland, Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home is one of the oldest and most trusted funeral homes in the area.

Edward L. Bernhardt
In 1955, Edward Bernhardt married Shirley Wainwright (the daughter of Eldon and Allegro), and together, along with Eldon, they carried on the compassionate tradition of caring for families in their time of need after Eldon’s passing in 1972. Kevin Bernhardt, Ed and Shirley’s son, became a licensed funeral director in 1979 and side-by-side with his dad, they cared for families and loved ones until Ed’s passing in 2017. Kevin and his wife Candi Bernhardt are the proud owners of the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home today. Still carrying on the values and traditions set forth by his grandfather and father, Kevin is honored to be entrusted with guiding families throughout their time of sorrow.
